At Cornell Engineering, no student is alone. Cornell is a big place, but resources are available at every turn to make college feel smaller and to emphasize community building. Below is just a partial list of places where students can seek help in all forms!

Resources in the College of Engineering

  • Diversity Programs in Engineering (DPE) provides programs that facilitate the recruitment, development, retention, and success of all members of the engineering community with a concentration on those from backgrounds historically underserved and underrepresented in engineering.
    • CUES Tutoring provides underrepresented minority (URM) and first-generation college (FGC) students with access to tutors for the gateway courses to engineering majors and for major-level courses.
    • Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Scholars is a program for current undergraduate STEM majors to provide assistance with preparing for graduate school admissions as well as obtaining strategies that maximize their competitiveness for graduate study.
    • Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (LSAMP REU) is a nine-week summer research opportunity that provides undergraduate participants with the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and staff as well as network with others in their field of interest.
    • Ryan Scholars is an academic initiative that provides each scholar with support to succeed as an engineering undergraduate student and beyond. Each year, up to 35 students are invited to become a member of the Ryan Scholars Program through the admissions process.
    • Peer Mentoring (CU EMPower) is a mentoring program that supports the personal and academic development and achievement of first-year undergraduate and graduate students, as well as undergraduate transfer students, by matching incoming engineering students with upperclassmen and/or advanced graduate student peer mentors.
  • Engineering Advising provides a variety of advising services and programs to assist students in achieving their undergraduate academic and personal goals.
  • Engineering Leadership Programs’ mission is to grow powerful leaders who take on our world’s biggest challenges with knowledge, skill, insight and courage. This is achieved through classes and seminars, supplemental instruction in design courses, the Engineering Leadership Certificate Program, and other means.
    • WE LEAD is a new high-impact offering that prepares Cornell women in technology and engineering to lead with confidence.
    • Engineering Leadership Certificate Program will develop your unique capabilities to make an impact on the world and live a life of purpose and fulfillment.
    • Tech+Teams is a suite of services to support students and faculty in team-based engineering classes.

  • Engineering Learning Initiatives (ELI) enhances the learning environment in the College of Engineering by providing opportunities for students to engage in collaborative learning, undergraduate research, and peer tutoring. The program also promotes teaching excellence in the college, administering the college’s Teaching Assistant Development Program and training undergraduates to be collaborative learning facilitators and peer tutors.
    • Tutors on Call provides two hours of free tutoring each week for undergraduate engineering students and majors.
    • Academic Excellence Workshops (AEWs) are optional 1-credit supplemental courses taken in conjunction with core engineering courses in math, computer science, chemistry, and statistics. Designed to enhance student understanding, the workshops are facilitated by undergraduate peer educators, and feature group work on problems at or above the level of course instruction.

  • Cornell Health is the fully accredited provider of medical and mental health services for students on Cornell’s Ithaca campus.
  • Cornell Recreational Services offers a wide variety of fitness, wellness, sports and open recreation activities.
  • Cornell University Library System has world-class collections and services – print, online, and in person – the library serves as an indispensable partner in study, teaching and research at the University. There are eighteen constituent libraries located in Ithaca and New York City.
  • Cornell University Undergraduate Research Board (CURB) seeks to enhance the Cornell undergraduate experience by promoting and enriching undergraduate research on campus.
  • Entrepreneurship at Cornell is a diverse, university-wide program that finds and fosters the entrepreneurial spirit in participants from every college, every field, and in every stage of life.
  • Financial Aid is available to help as you navigate the complex financial aid process. Cornell is committed to making it affordable by removing financial barriers through a variety of financial aid programs.
  • First Generation and Low Income Student Support (FGLI) is intended to promote identity exploration, community, advocacy and empowerment for all students who identify with the first-generation and/or low-income student experience.
  • Housing and Residential Life provides student support and programming in the residence halls to make your experience engaging, meaningful, and gratifying. As a first-year student, you’ll be part of a community of more than 3,000 new Cornellians living in residence halls and Program Houses on North Campus.
  • LGBT Resource Center strives to be an affirming and welcoming space on campus that works to incorporate principles of social justice into our programs and services.
  • Learning Strategies Center (LSC) is the central academic support unit for undergraduates at Cornell University. Through program offerings that encourage students to develop effective approaches to mastering the academic rigors of Cornell, the LSC strives to actively engage students in the learning process and support their efforts to become more successful and independent learners.
  • Multicultural Student Leadership and Empowerment supports students and student organizations in their efforts to offer a wider variety of programs and initiatives that explore both the shared and unique experiences, histories, and heritages of our diverse community.
  • Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI) is focused on inclusion and achievement across the Cornell campus so students of all backgrounds excel at their academic goals. OADI programs especially support low-income students, those who are the first in their families to achieve a college degree, and under-represented students of color.
  • Office of Global Learning develops and supports the next generation of global citizens by fostering mobility, exploration, and international and cultural exchange. They provide resources for international students on campus as well as support for Cornell Students studying abroad.
  • Office of Spirituality and Meaning-Making supports all Cornell students – regardless of their religious or ethical background – in deepening their beliefs and discovering a sense of meaning and purpose.
  • Office of the Bursar is Cornell University’s central billing service for tuition, fees, and other charges incurred by students and proactively assists families to manage their financial obligations to the university by offering dependable customer service and a variety of financial services
  • Student Disability Services (SDS) provides academic and/or environmental accommodations and services for qualified students with disabilities.
  • Tatkon Center for First-Year Students is a support and resource center for first-year students that’s staffed by upper-level students who are eager to share their experience and help you make a smooth transition to our campus community.
  • The Cornell Store serves the Cornell community by providing products and services to support teaching, research, and outreach.
